MEET A MEMBER
Alex Lanfear, Sales Manager, Creative Solar
Decatur CoWorks member Alex Lanfear is one of the nearly 300,000 people working the growing solar industry. In his role as sales manager for Creative Solar, a full-service solar electric contractor, Lanfear works closely with homeowners and local businesses to ensure their sites can support solar systems, as well as educate them about the environmental impacts and cost savings.
Creative Solar is the official solar contractor of the Solarize Decatur-Dekalb initiative, a bulk-purchasing program that makes alternative power sources accessible and affordable. Leading this initiative is fellow CoWorks member, Solar Crowd Source, a company that works with municipalities and community leaders to identify local solar demands, as well as help identify cost-effective resources for installation.
“I’ve always enjoyed outdoor life, and even from an early age have felt like it’s our responsibility to protect the planet’s finite resources because of my father's influence on me regarding environmental issues. He started the first recycling program in my home town of Lake George, NY and always stressed the importance of preservation and sustainability," Lanfear said.
“Large-scale solar energy is inevitable because we need to make the best use of the planets resources. Solar is the most abundant resource on the planet. It’s truly a privilege to help our Decatur neighbors and business owners realize how they can positively affect an environmental change. In fact, our company’s efforts have results in more than 100 installations of residential solar systems that have generated more than 700 kilowatts of energy, which eqates to 1,373,600 lbs of CO2 avoided annually!”
A Decatur CoWorks member for the past 6 months, Lanfear said, “The convenient location and comfortable atmosphere make CoWorks an ideal work space. And since Solarize Decatur also is a resident member, we have plenty of space to work and collaborate, as well as meet with clients.”
Movements like Solarize Decatur-Dekalb are popping up all over the place, he said, which is easy to believe when you consider the price of solar panels has decreased by 70 percent during the last 6 years.
Originally from upstate New York, Lanfear has been an Atlanta resident for the past 6 years. When he isn’t helping Decatur and Dekalb residents affect environmental change, he can be found riding his bike along the Beltline or playing basketball at a local park.
